The Netherlands Gambling Authority (KSA) has issued a warning to online gambling provider 711 BV for using an influencer to promote its services, breaching the ban on employing role models in gambling advertising.
These rules are designed to protect vulnerable groups, including young people and at-risk or problem gamblers, from gambling marketing.
Role Model Ban Enforcement
Under Dutch law, online gambling providers are prohibited from using role models, such as professional athletes, actors, models, or influencers in their advertising. The KSA has instructed 711 BV to remove all content featuring the influencer promoting its services, including videos and other media. The company has confirmed that the partnership has ended and is in the process of taking down the relevant material.
The KSA highlighted the importance of gambling providers being cautious about who they engage for marketing purposes.
Concerns About Tournaments
Additionally, the KSA addressed 711 BV regarding tournaments in which players were automatically entered without registering or agreeing to bonus terms, a practice that could encourage inappropriate gaming behaviour. 711 BV has confirmed that it has ceased this practice.
